The Altar of Mercy Grounds is the Headquarters of Gateway International Church located in Port Harcourt and stands as the heart of our global ministry, a vibrant center of worship, prayer, teaching, and supernatural encounter. Gateway International Church was founded on 7 January 1996 by Pastor George Izunwa with the direct instruction to "...go and teach my people strength", the HQ has become a lighthouse of hope and a training ground for thousands seeking to know God, grow spiritually, and walk in divine purpose. Here, our commitment remains firm: God comes first in everything, and every member is encouraged to pursue a personal and authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.

As the central hub of our ministry, the Altar of Mercy Grounds embodies our culture of excellence, warmth, and intentional discipleship. We are a church that welcomes people from all walks of life and helps them genuinely experience God’s presence and power. Through Spirit-led worship, life-changing messages, intentional mentoring, and a friendly, family-centered atmosphere, the HQ nurtures spiritual growth while empowering believers to influence their world for Christ. Ordinary individuals are raised into extraordinary leaders, marriages are honored, families are strengthened, and lives are transformed daily.

The Altar of Mercy Grounds is also the launching ground for our core assignment: soul winning and church planting. From here, we train, equip, and deploy leaders to establish new churches, lead outreach missions, and touch communities across Nigeria and beyond. Our ministry extends beyond the walls of the Port Harcourt, Nigeria through benevolence initiatives, empowerment programs, and support for the less-privileged, widows, and families in need. In everything we do, our heartbeat remains consistent: love God passionately, love people genuinely, and change lives intentionally.
